Destination: College

Using strategies of powerful near-peer advising programs, Destination College’s three major initiatives increases college-going at low performing middle and high schools in California.

Destination College AmeriCorps:

Over sixty Cal undergraduates and recent graduates work as mentors, tutors and advisors each year, bringing the college message to students of all ages in a collaboration led by Destination College of twelve East Bay schools and community-based organizations.  Participating DC members earn scholarships upon completing their service, while giving back to their own communities and inspiring the next generation of students to dream of and prepare for college.

Destination College Advising Corps:

The Destination College Advising Corps is part of the National College Advising Corps.  DCAC recruits recent UC Berkeley graduates to serve as full-time College Advisors who provide one-on-one college-advising services to 2,400 students and group services for at least 30,000 students annually in Solano, San Jose, San Francisco, Tulare, and San Bernadino counties. Advisors receive intensive training for six-weeks prior to their placement and benefit from ongoing professional development.

Solano County Education Consortium:

The Solano County Educational Consortium (SCEC) is the Cal-SOAP program serving schools, students and parent in Solano County.  SCEC is a consortium of local colleges and universities, community organizations, and Solano County school districts, working together to improve academic performance and college attendance rates for low-income, first-generation college-going students. A part-time staff of enthusiastic undergraduate college students from partner post-secondary institutions receives intensive training to serve middle schools and high schools in the Vallejo, Fairfield, Vacaville, and Dixon school districts.
