Merryl has a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from UC Berkeley and an MS in Counseling from San Francisco State. After graduating from high school, she worked as a teacher and a video editor for a television station. She returned to school as a student at Santa Monica College and completed most of her coursework to transfer before taking a break to get married and go to Peru for two years with her archaeologist husband. While in Peru, she was on an archaeological survey project, mapping archaeological and historical remains in a 100 square mile area, and also helped set up a small, local, archaeological museum. Once returning to the United States, Merryl finished her coursework at Foothill and De Anza Colleges before transferring to UC Berkeley to complete her BA. Soon after graduation, she started working on the Berkeley campus in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Berkeley International Office and at the Community College Transfer Center/Transfer Alliance Project.
