Paul teaches Cognitive Science at Stanford and UC Berkeley, has a graduate degree from Columbia, wrote a Cognitive Science textbook, and does research at the Gladstone Institutes at UCSF. Not the profile of the Paul Li you might have met at Thurgood Marshall High School in San Francisco. As the oldest of three, Paul comes from an immigrant family without many financial resources, but with a willingness to take advantage of whatever social, education and health services were available. At Marshall he worked with CEP’s Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP). Paul describes EAOP “ a second parent…providing the direction and guidance my parents were not able to give me. EAOP revealed the possibilities and the opportunities to explore options. It was because of EAOP that I understood what college was about.”
