Hazel Amina

A Native Hawaiian from Nānākuli, Hawai’i, and a graduate of Waianae High School.  Hazel began her TRIO Journey with the Pre-College TRIO Upward Bound (UB) program from the University of Hawai’i, Mānoa (UHM). She continued on to the Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) Program at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB). While at the University of Hawai’i, Mānoa campus, Hazel participated in the TRIO Collegiate program Student Support Services. She was passionate about “making a difference” in the lives of others, and returned to her Pre-College TRIO programs to serve in different capacities in Hawai’i as a tutor, a summer math instructor, to a summer camp counselor, and then in California as the Head Women’s Counselor, College Advisor, and Associate Director. Hazel served on the WESTOP Northern California Chapter Board and Service Council. She was recognized as “Staff of the Year” by her colleagues of the UCB Pre-College TRIO Program for her 22 years of service, and her dedicated lifestyle and motto, "Upward Bound is a way of life!
