Pre-College TRIO Programs
The Pre-College TRIO Programs Mission:
For the last 40 years, the UC Berkeley Pre-College TRIO Programs have provided low-income, first-generation-to-college students with the preparation vital for completing higher education.
"We PCT, motivate and empower for academic success."
Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program publicizes the availability of financial aid and assist participants with their postsecondary application process. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.
Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
Upward Bound Math & Science
The Upward Bound Math and Science program is designed to strengthen the math and science skills of participating students. The goal of the program is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science and to encourage them to pursue postsecondary degrees in math and science, and ultimately careers in the math and science profession.
Talent Search offers a four-week Summer BEARS program at the UC Berkeley campus in the month of July. During Summer BEARS, students will be able to participate in classes and workshops in college/career awareness, study skills, life skills and writing skills. Summer BEARS is designed to give our students an early start to the academic year.
Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math and Science
Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science students are given the opportunity to dorm at the UC Berkeley dormitories for our six-week Summer Residential Program. Counselors and Staff will dorm with students and provide supervision and guidance throughout the six week summer program.
During the summer, the program offers classes in English, math, lab sciences, computers and foreign languages; evening tutorial sessions; workshops of social and cultural significance; and organized recreational activities.
