Bio/CV:
Born and raised in East Oakland with roots from Michoacan, Mexico, Jessica is a first-generation college graduate who is a passionate college access advocate and practitioner. Jessica’s first introduction to the field of college access dates back to when she first started her journey with TRIO in 2007. Jessica participated in the Educational Talent Search program and later transitioned to Upward Bound. Her involvement in TRIO significantly shifted her perspective around higher education and success. Jessica continued her education at UC Santa Cruz where she majored in Sociology and minored in Education. During her time at UCSC, Jessica had a deep interest in returning to East Oakland to work in the field of Education. She returned to her alma mater high school, LPS Oakland, as a College Course Facilitator and later transitioned to UC Berkeley’s Destination College Advising Corps to serve as a College Advisor for two years. Jessica is now currently with UC Berkeley’s Pre-College TRIO program as the Educational Talent Search College Advisor at De Anza High School. Jessica is very proud to be a product of TRIO and is thrilled to continue working towards increasing the number of underrepresented, low-income, first generation students in higher education.
