Julia Maciel is a Latina educator who was raised in Berkeley, CA where she developed her passion for servicing students in the academia. She was an active member of the Berkeley High Bridge and RISE program where she was provided the proper resources to successfully pursue higher education. As a recent graduate of San Jose State University where studied communication and the sociology of education, she was inspired to make a difference in the community she grew up in. This lead to her active participation as a mentor for the Berkeley High Bridge junior cohort along with attaining a position as a Learning Communities intern at Berkeley City College. This work has provided her the opportunity to advocate for students and network closely with educators to better improve resources available for students. Her journey as a student and an educator impels her to provide an equitable education for all students.
