Nicholas Childs

Nick currently serves as Associate Director of Upward Bound, primarily working with high school students throughout West Contra Costa and Oakland. Nick has spent the past seven years serving high school students in various TRiO positions, is a first-generation college graduate, and earned both his Bachelors and Masters degree from University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. During his Master's program, he focused much of his research on indigenous agency and the political relationship indigenous people have with westernized methodologies of energy production. Nick believes that through decolonizing education, and emphasizing community engagement and advocacy, students are empowered to continue the work in transforming educational systems into more equitable schools of learning.
