Theresa was born and raised in San Antonio, TX, and attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned a BA in History & Afro-American Studies. She became a student organizer when realizing the racism her and other students of color faced in the classroom as well as in the streets of Madison, WI. It was through this experience that she became more politically conscious and committed to rooting herself in the demand for justice.Theresa moved to Oakland 18 years ago where she initially worked as a youth organizer for a community-based organization addressing racial injustice in public education. It was in this role that she began to understand how serious of an educational debt there was and how inherent inequalities were across our various communities. She joined the EAOP staff 15 years ago and has been committed to opening doors for more students of color and low-income students into higher education since. Theresa is a mom to a pretty awesome kid and is raising him to create the world he wants and not just the one we exist in.
