EAOP Summer Sessions
A diverse and talented group of selected DCAC & EAOP cohort students from partner high schools throughout the Bay Area embarked on extremely rigorous college courses taught by partnered UC Berkeley professors and attended by UC Berkeley undergraduates. These are full-semester courses compressed into six weeks. Students earn credit for their UC Berkeley Summer Sessions coursework, which appears on an official UC Berkeley transcript and is transferable to most accredited colleges and universities.
Summer Sessions - RISE
The Readiness Initiative for Summer Enrichment (R.I.S.E.) is a 2-day event series that takes place before Summer Session courses begin, and features workshops on college-writing skills, time management, wellness, overcoming imposter syndrome and networking. In addition, throughout the summer, students are invited to multiple community events, engaging in college-knowledge workshops such as Financial Aid 101 and community building activities. These workshops and presentations are facilitated by DCAC & EAOP program staff, Regional Directors, and College Adviser Fellows, and by campus partners such as Townsend Center for the Humanities and bridges, UC Berkeley library, and campus tour department.
DCAC & EAOP PreCollege Scholars
In partnership with UC Berkeley’s Pre-College Scholars Program, a selected group of DCAC and EAOP cohort students participate in a summer program where some can earn college credit. These students are placed into one of four available tracks:
- Residential Track – A 6- or 8-week residential program where students live on campus and take two Summer Sessions courses.
- Virtual Track – Students take a Summer Sessions course virtually.
- Commuter Track – Students commute to UC Berkeley to take an in-person course.
- Two-Week Non-Credit Computer Science Course – A short, intensive course focused on computer science that does not offer academic credits.

This summer, the Pre-Collegiate Academy, in partnership with EBSCC, Oakland Unified School District, City of Oakland, and Merritt College, welcomed 110 middle and high school students for a six-week program of academic enrichment, career exploration, and enriching activities. Students strengthened their math skills, explored postsecondary and career-technical pathways, and visited UC Davis, San Francisco State, San Jose State, CSU East Bay, ElectricFish, and had a picnic at Golden Gate Park. Beyond academics, they enjoyed a day of sports, carnival games, and a BBQ. The program ended on a high note with a lively talent show where students and staff showcase
Summer Melt
Summer Melt aims to prevent recent high school graduates from not continuing their matriculation to their postsecondary institution. EBSCC outreached to recent graduates from our 19 partner schools to inform and support students with advising services. These services ranged from community college applications and registering for college classes to financial aid application assistance.
NAF Future Ready Scholars at UC Berkeley
This summer, NAF at UC Berkeley welcomed 84 new scholars for a dynamic, 6-day residential experience filled with hands-on learning, exploration, and community building. Students immersed themselves in STEAM activities, from conducting a Soil Sequencing Lab with UC Berkeley’s Pickering Lab to designing their own water filters and touring the College of Civil & Environmental Engineering. Beyond academics, scholars celebrated culture and connection with events like a Juneteenth Black History Tour and picnic, a field trip to San Francisco’s Exploratorium, and community-building activities such as a movie night and a sunset reflection at the Campanile. Through our virtual Career Exploration Curriculum, our entire cohort of scholars also engaged in self-discovery, investigated career pathways in healthcare, STEM, and education, and developed essential skills like teamwork, communication, and presenting. Over the course of 6 weeks and 15 virtual workshops plus 5 community-building sessions, 120 scholars participated 938 times in total.
Pyramid Tech Academy
This summer, Community College Transfer Services (CCTS) collaborated with Puente and UC Berkeley’s Cal NERDS program to launch the inaugural Pyramid Tech Academy.
The academy was designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities for STEM-curious community college students interested in exploring 3D printing and Python coding in a supportive environment.
Instruction was led by current UC Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students—many of whom were transfer students themselves. In addition to building technical skills, the program emphasized transfer readiness and confidence-building to help students navigate their academic journey. Each student was recruited for the CCTS program and was provided guidance to create a UC Transfer Admissions Planner. Students will continue to receive support through CCTS throughout the academic year.
Puente MaS
This past August, Puente MaS Summer STEM Academy was held at UC Berkeley, with 50 students participating in a week-long program focused on building and strengthening their STEM knowledge. Students built connections with their peers by working together in familias throughout the week. Curriculum was curated with an environmental justice focus and provided students with a variety of workshops that sought to grow their STEM confidence.
Community College Puente Summer Institute
This past July, Puente trained over 45 faculty coordinators to prepare them for their new roles. Highlights of the week-long residential training include a screen printing workshop with Melanie Cervantes and time with a panel of Puente students. We are excited to expand our Puente familia and look forward to connecting with our new faculty coordinators
Secondary Puente Summer Institute
The Puente Secondary Team was proud to host 21 educators from all over California for the week-long residential Puente Summer Institute in Berkeley.
This year our high school and middle school counselors and teachers learned about Puente’s Pedagogy of Cariño and heard important admissions consejos from our keynote Alfred Herrera. The week itinerary included an introduction to Community Cultural Wealth, Puente’s Writing strategies, and YPAR (Youth Participatory Research) along with a youth guided field trip to Hummingbird Farm- a social justice community garden. We are excited to welcome our newly trained educators to our Puente sites.
TRIO-ETS High School Summer Program
TRIO ETS offered a 3 week introductory Data Science and Machine Learning course to our 9th-11th grade students from July 14th to August 1st. This was offered through a partnership with the Berkeley Lab and CalTeach. Students had the option of receiving high school credit for the course. In addition, we offered summer advising to students, where advisors supported students with enrolling in community college and ensuring that they are meeting A-G college eligibility.
TRIO-ETS Middle School Summer Program
TRIO ETS offered an on-campus 1 week summer program to our middle school students. The focus of the summer program was high school preparation. This focus was facilitated in a variety of ways. Students explored our own campus and completed Dream College projects, where they came up with the kinds of universities they would want to attend. They also met with their high school advisors, so that they can start building relationships prior to their transition. In addition, they heard from current high school ambassadors, to increase their knowledge and understanding of high school and leadership at TRIO. Students also participated in engaging STEM activities, such as the egg drop, and got some insight into history as well, through a visit to the BAMPFA.
